Description

Tambocor (flecainide) is prescribed to treat ventricular and supraventricular tachycardia (fast heart rates) that have not responded to other drugs and other cardiac anomalies.

Tambocor 50 mg treats arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats) such as paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) and life-threatening sustained ventricular tachycardia (sustained VT), paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, and atrial flutter. Tambocor 100 mg treats ventricular arrhythmias and paroxysmal atrial flutter.

Flecainide is a sodium channel blocker used to correct irregular heartbeats and maintain heart rhythms. Its main effect is on the upper chambers of the heart (the atria), where it slows signal conduction through the AV node. This regulates the electrical conduction in the heart muscle, which helps to restore disturbances in the heart rhythm.

Dosage

The prescribing physician will determine the appropriate dose and regimen.

The recommended dosage for patients with supraventricular arrhythmia starts with 50 mg twice daily. If necessary, the physician may increase this dose to a maximum dose of 300 mg a day. The usual starting dose for patients with ventricular arrhythmia is 100 mg twice daily. The maximum daily dose is 400 mg. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

If a higher dosage has been taken by mistake, or if a child has accidentally swallowed the medicine, go immediately to a doctor or a hospital emergency room along with the drug package.
