Description

Rythmol / Profex / Rytmonorm (generic name: propafenone) is a prescription medicine used to treat serious heart rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, and certain types of ventricular arrhythmias.

Propafenone belongs to the class of medicines known as Class IC antiarrhythmics. Propafenone works by slowing the electrical signals in the heart that cause abnormal rhythms. This stabilizes the heartbeat, helping it return to and remain in a normal sinus rhythm. It can reduce palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, chest pain, and fainting associated with arrhythmias.

Usual dosage

It is important to follow the dosage instructions printed on the label of the box.For most adults, the recommended starting dose is 150 mg every 8 hours (three times daily). The dose may be gradually increased under medical supervision to 225–300 mg every 8 hours, depending on the condition and patient response. In some cases, a sustained-release version is prescribed, typically 225–425 mg every 12 hours.

Propafenone should be taken with food to reduce stomach upset. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless it is close to the next scheduled dose. Do not double dose to make up for a missed dose. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with liver or kidney impairment, or when other heart medications are being used.

Important: continue treatment exactly as prescribed, even if symptoms improve, as stopping suddenly can worsen arrhythmias.

Standard storage

Store the tablets at 20-25 °C (68-77 °F), with allowable variation between 15-30 °C (59-86 °F). Keep away from moisture, heat, and direct light.
