Description

Lovaza (generic name: omega‑3‑acid ethyl esters) is a fish oil–derived medication used to lower very high triglyceride levels in adults. It supplies concentrated omega-3 fatty acids, primarily eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These fatty acids help reduce the amount of fat circulating in the blood, which can reduce the risk of complications related to elevated triglycerides.

The medication works by decreasing liver triglyceride production and may also increase triglyceride clearance from the bloodstream. By targeting triglycerides, Lovaza helps improve lipid balance and supports heart health, particularly in individuals who cannot control elevated triglycerides through diet alone.
