Litfulo can be used to treat severe alopecia areata in adults and adolescents.
Description
Litfulo (generic name: ritlecitinib) is an oral Janus kinase 3 (JAK3) and TEC family kinase inhibitor used to treat severe alopecia areata in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks hair follicles, causing inflammation and hair loss on the scalp, face, and other body areas.
Ritlecitinib works by inhibiting JAK3 and TEC enzymes, which play a central role in the inflammatory process around hair follicles. This reduction of inflammation promotes hair regrowth, helping restore hair in affected areas. By targeting these specific enzymes, Litfulo reduces immune attack on the follicles without broadly disrupting the immune system.
Litfulo belongs to the pharmacological class of medicine used in autoimmune conditions. Oral administration allows for a focused treatment that combines convenience with precision, supporting hair regrowth in individuals affected by severe alopecia areata.
Dosage
It is important to follow the dosage instructions printed on the label of the box. Check with a doctor or pharmacist if there are any questions regarding the proper dosage and treatment regimen.
The standard dosage of Litfulo is 50 mg taken orally once daily, with or without food. The capsule should be swallowed whole with water. If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered on the same day; if it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue the regular dosing schedule. Patients with moderate to severe liver or kidney impairment may require dosage adjustment or monitoring by a healthcare provider.
Storage
Avoid storing near heat sources or in humid areas, such as bathrooms. Litfulo capsules should be kept in their original packaging and protected from moisture and light, and stored at room temperature between 20-25 °C (68 -77 °F).
