Description

Desryel (generic name: trazodone) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) prescribed for the treatment of Major Depression Disorder (MMD).

Trazodone prevents the resorption of serotonin in the nerves. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that acts to promote messaging between nerve cells. Low serotonin and noradrenaline levels can produce imbalances in brain chemistry and lead to bouts of depression.

Desryel can also be prescribed off-label to treat alcohol dependence and insomnia as well as some other depressions..

It is very important that no changes are made to the dose without first consulting with the prescibing doctor or another qualified healthcare professional. Since trazodone can induce drowsiness, it is usually recommended that the dose is taken last thing at night before sleep.
