Description

Nustendi (ezetimibe and bempedoic acid) is prescribed along with a healthy diet to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. High cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia) can lead to atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) which occurs when cholesterol, fat, and other substances build up in the walls of arteries. This forms hard structures called plaques which, over time, can block the arteries and cause heart disease, stroke, and other problems.

Ezetimibe inhibits intestinal cholesterol absorption. It differs from other drugs treating hypercholesterolemia because it does not affect the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients such as triglycerides, fat-soluble vitamins, or bile acids. Most of the newer treatments for high cholesterol combine ezetimibe with statins. However, Nustendi combines ezetimibe with bempedoic acid, which has a different mechanism of action. It targets the same biological pathway as statins, but does not have the negative effects that statins can have.

DosageFollow the prescribing doctor’s instructions. The recommended dose of Nustendi is a single tablet taken once each day at the same time, with or without food.
